Porcelain Veneers, Dental Veneers
Philadelphia, Main Line, and Ardmore, Pennsylvania Cosmetic Dentistry
Are you interested in a speedy smile transformation? Porcelain veneers are quick and will make heads turn wherever you go. Philadelphia cosmetic dentist, Dr. Lindsey Marshall, offers dental veneers as a quick and easy way to re-surface the front teeth that show when you smile and laugh.
Problems Corrected by Porcelain Veneers
Part of the appeal of veneers is that they can solve several dental problems in one procedure. You can have porcelain veneers to correct teeth that are:
- Chipped
- Cracked
- Crooked
- Misshapen
- Gapped
- Stained
In some cases, you and Dr. Marshall might choose other procedures, such as teeth whitening if staining is the main problem, or Invisalign to correct crookedness if it exists throughout the mouth.
Advantages of Dental Porcelain
Tooth enamel and dental porcelain are both semi-translucent and the way they react with light produces a similar white shine. When porcelain is bonded to your teeth as a porcelain filling, porcelain crown, or porcelain veneer, it is strong, durable, and stain-resistant.
In Dr. Marshall's cosmetic dentistry practice, she prefers to use Empress veneers, offered by Ivoclar-Vivadent, due to their strength and superior resemblance to your natural teeth. Their ceramic material is pressed and layered with powdered leucite crystals to enhance its optical properties and strength. This material was developed by an international team of master ceramics back in 1991 and since then has been increasingly used by cosmetic dentists.
Placement of Your Porcelain Veneers
Once you and Dr. Marshall have determined that porcelain veneers offer the best way to enhance your smile, your two appointments will be scheduled.
In the first visit, Dr. Marshall will prepare your teeth by removing a thin layer of enamel from the front surfaces and slightly etching the new surface. This creates room for your veneers and a good surface for strong bonding. She will take photographs and measurements and send them to our top-quality dental laboratory, along with other data necessary for your veneers to be fabricated accurately. Temporary veneers will be placed to give you a preview of your final smile.
In the second visit, Dr. Marshall will fit your veneers temporarily to test your bite. You can examine them in a mirror and when you are both pleased with their look and feel, she will bond them permanently to your teeth. They will need the same daily brushing and flossing that you give your natural teeth, and remember to brush the backs of the veneered teeth to prevent decay from undermining them from behind.
