How do I choose a cosmetic dentist?
Choosing the right cosmetic dentist for your individual needs can mean the difference between exceptional results and serious disappointment. When making your decision, focus on attributes such as:
- The dentist's credentials
- The amount of post-graduate education that has been obtained
- The dentist's experience with the procedures you are considering
- The demeanor of the dentist and the rest of the team
- The atmosphere of the dental office
Please see How to Choose a Dentist for more information.
How is the color of dental restorations determined?
If you are having restorative work performed, Philadelphia Cosmetic Dentist, Dr. Marshall will match your restoration to the current shade of your teeth. If you are considering a teeth whitening treatment, this should be done before any restorative work because the whitening agent will not alter the color of the restoration.
What causes my teeth to become discolored?
The major causes of tooth discoloration are pigmented foods and drinks, aging, and chemical damage from tobacco and some medications. If you smoke or drink a lot of coffee or tea, your teeth will discolor more quickly and will require tooth whitening treatments more often than others.
Why is tooth bonding done?
Bonding material is a composite resin colored to match your natural tooth enamel. Tooth bonding can repair broken or chipped teeth, close small gaps between teeth, or slightly enlarge a tooth to match its neighbors. The term “bonding” refers both to the substance and to the procedure. The bonding material is also called white composite or dental composite and the same substance with a different consistency can be used for filling small cavities.
What can be done about a missing tooth?
Dental bridges and dental implants are the most common restorations used to replace a missing tooth. Bridges fill the space left by the missing tooth and help to maintain the alignment of surrounding teeth. Dental implants are titanium tooth roots that replace the gap left in the jawbone when a tooth is lost. They anchor replacement teeth and are a permanent way to both preserve your jaw line and fill a gap in your smile.
