What is Invisalign®?
Invisalign is a clear braces system that can transform your smile without any discomfort, embarrassment, and without interfering with your day-to-day life. It is an effortless system to straighten teeth; the custom-fitted aligners are much more comfortable than traditional braces. Invisalign consists of a series of aligners that you switch out about every two weeks. The aligners are custom made to fit your teeth and gradually shift the teeth into place. Most people will not even be able to tell you are wearing the braces. Philadelphia cosmetic dentist, Dr. Lindsey Marshall has been straightening the teeth of her patients with Invisalign for several years, and she can straighten your smile, too.
What makes Invisalign® so popular?
This clear braces system is more convenient and much more pleasing to the eye than the often unsightly traditional silver braces of yesteryear. While you may have had to wear the uncomfortable, unattractive silver braces in the 70’s, 80’s, or 90’s, your children (or even you) can now have a straight, beautiful smile without the rubber bands, cut gums, and painful teeth that often accompanied traditional braces.
How do the aligners work?
After a thorough evaluation that involves x-rays, digital photos, and impressions being taken of your teeth, Invisalign computer software is used to simulate movement of your teeth into their correction positions; the movement is divided into stages. Once Dr. Marshall approves the movement plan for your teeth, she will have your aligners created. When aligners arrive at our office, you will come in so Dr. Marshall can explain how to use them. Every two weeks, you move on to the next aligners in the series. After six weeks, you will return to the office so we can monitor your progress and give you the next set of aligners.
Are the aligners worn all day and night?
For best results, the aligners should be worn twenty hours per day, but you can remove them at any time. Your aligners should be removed when you eat.
How long does the entire straightening by Invisalign® process take?
Average treatment time for Invisalign runs about one year. If your teeth are not too terribly crooked, you may have straight teeth within as little as five months. Each patient’s treatment time varies, of course.
