Dental Implant Recovery
- Posted on: Apr 16 2013
Missing teeth present a pressing oral health issue; they put you at risk for a wide range of future complications. Dental implants are excellent options for our Philadelphia-area patients who are worried that missing teeth could damage their dental health. With a safe, simple procedure Dr. Lindsey Marshall can fit you with a dental implant that looks and feels just like your natural teeth.
While the dental implant recovery process is long and extensive, the health benefits of the procedure make it worth your time investment.
Every case is unique, and your precise recovery time will be determined by the extent of your dental implant surgery. Put simply, the more extensive the surgery, the longer the recovery time. Dr. Marshall will be able to walk you through your recovery process before you undergo the procedure.
Assuming you don’t require any bone grafts, after your damaged tooth is removed Dr. Marshall will place a titanium post in the appropriate place. Your body will then take between three and six months to integrate this support rod into your jaw bone.
Once that process is complete, and depending on whether or not Dr. Marshall placed the abutment your dental crown will rest on at the initial surgery, we will take an impression of your teeth and then place the crown on top of the entire arrangement.
After each stage in the process you will need to restrict your diet to soft foods for about 10 to 14 days afterward.
Dr. Marshall is happy to answer any dental implant questions you might have, including questions about recovery.
