Staying On the Cutting Edge of Technology

dental technologyTechnology is rapidly changing our lives and it’s no different in the dental world. Some dentists are resistant to change, however, and are slow to adopt some of these new tools. In stark contrast is the practice of Dr. Marshall. She fully believes in the advantages that new technology brings to her patients. Here is a sampling of some of the new technology we use in our practice.

Intraoral Camera

In coordination with our practice computer system, Dr. Marshall uses a digital intraoral camera to provide instant images of your teeth and gums. These images can be shared with you on a chairside monitor, making it easy to discuss problems and possible treatments.

Often, dental problems don’t cause pain until they are well developed. Our intraoral camera identifies the following problems early on, before you may feel any pain:

  • Decay and enlarged pockets
  • Fractures or impending fractures
  • Surface cracks
  • Chips
  • Leaking fillings
  • Cavity development
  • Signs of gingivitis

Digital X-Rays

Dr. Marshall was an early adopter of digital x-rays, which offer many advantages to both her and her patients. Digital x-rays produce instant digital images that can be magnified, colorized, and are high definition. They are clearer and, because of the zooming options, more effective for diagnosis. Digital x-rays also reduce the radiation patients receive by 90% when compared with traditional x-rays.

DIAGNOdent

DIAGNOdent is a caries detection device that allows Dr. Marshall to locate extremely small areas of tooth decay often before they are visible with the naked eye. DIAGOdent provides far more accurate diagnosis at earlier stages.

CEREC

CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics and it bypasses the need to have a dental lab fabricate the crowns for our patients. THE CEREC system accurately designs and then creates the crown in a matter of minutes, making a typical two-appointment procedure complete in just one appointment. It is also used for porcelain fillings.

These are just a sampling of the new technology employed by Dr. Marshall in her practice. Next time you’re here, let us show it to you! Call us at 610-649-0696.
