How Do Invisalign® Aligners Work?
- Posted on: Mar 13 2014
Are you looking for a way to straighten your teeth without the hassle and unsightly aesthetic of traditional metal braces? Dr. Lindsey Marshall frequently recommends Invisalign to Philadelphia patients seeking an orthodontic option that doesn’t stick out in the workplace or at social functions.
Instead of uncomfortable brackets and wires attached to your teeth, Invisalign® uses sturdy, removable plastic trays to align your bite and straighten your smile line. After determining whether or not you’re a candidate for Invisalign, Dr. Marshall will use X-rays, photos, and impressions of your teeth to create a series of custom aligner trays.
These aligners are designed to fit your teeth comfortably and move your teeth and bite gradually into the preferred position. Once the aligner trays are ready, you can begin treatment.
Dr. Marshall will explain the steps necessary to attain the best results with Invisalign® aligners, including:
- Wear your aligners at least 20 hours per day
- Remove the trays when eating or engaging in strenuous activities such as workouts or sports
- Replace your aligner every two weeks
- Visit Dr. Marshall’s office every six weeks so she can assess the treatment’s progress
