Porcelain Veneers Candidates
- Posted on: Feb 18 2013
Most people are good candidates for porcelain veneers. You are probably a good candidate for porcelain veneers if:
- You are dissatisfied with the appearance of one or more cosmetic dental problems.
- You want a long-term way to improve your smile.
- Your smile issues are cosmetic in nature and do not require major restoration or correction.
- Your teeth and gums are not unhealthy.
If you have tooth decay or gum disease, these conditions must be treated before veneers can be placed on the teeth. If you have a tooth that is badly damaged and susceptible to fracturing into multiple pieces, than a tooth crown is likely more appropriate. Porcelain veneers cannot provide the same type of restoration that a crown can.
In some cases, veneers are not right for people who grind their teeth. This condition is called bruxism, and it makes it more likely your veneers will break or fracture under the pressure of grinding.
There can be exceptions in any case. The only way to know whether porcelain veneers are right for you is to visit an experienced cosmetic dentist, who can examine your teeth and learn more about your goals for your smile.
