Restoring the brightness of your smile can mean a lot of things. It means looking younger and more energetic. It means making a better first impression on people you meet. It could even mean gaining a new bounce in your step due to increased confidence in your appearance. The question about getting a brighter smile is not whether or not you should do it; it is how you might do it.
Teeth Whitening is More than Meets the Eye
Teeth whitening treatments have been around for quite some time. Most people realize at this point that, to get the kind of noticeable results they want, they need to see their dentist. This is the easy aspect of the whole process. Once you make the commitment to have your teeth whitened by your dentist, then you have to set out on the work of figuring out the best method of whitening for your needs and expectations. A brief review follows.
In-office Zoom! Whitening
There are times when you just want to get a task done – NOW. One example that relates to teeth whitening is a special event. Are you getting married in a few weeks and have been so busy with the planning of your special day that you haven’t had time to take care of your smile? Then in-office Zoom! Treatment is right for you. Just don’t wait too long. Sometimes, the expedited process can leave you with a little sensitivity that may linger for a few days. In addition to helping you feel your best for an important event, Zoom! is also popular for patients who are beyond busy (who isn’t these days!) who want an in-and-done smile makeover.
Bleaching trays from your dentist are not the same thing as commercial whitening strips or trays. What you get from your dentist is far more concentrated, and thus more capable of giving you a radiant smile you want within a week or two. Professional home-whitening begins with us fabricating custom-molded trays that will fit closely around your teeth. We demonstrate how to use your trays, and how much bleaching gel to use with each application. From there, it’s up to you! Trays may be worn daily, or less frequently if your teeth are sensitive. With daily wear, significant whitening typically occurs in about 7 to 10 days.
Bleaching, whether performed at home or in our office, may not be suited to deep stains, such as tetracycline stains or fluorosis. For such concerns, we may suggest veneers, which are affixed to the front of your teeth for a gorgeous new smile.
