Questions About the Zoom! Tooth Whitening System
- Posted on: Oct 29 2010
How does the Zoom! Tooth Whitening System work? The Zoom! tooth whitening system is applied during your visit to Dr. Marshall’s office. First, your gums and lips are coated with a protective gel, and then a whitening agent is applied to the surfaces of your teeth. This agent is activated with a special light. After about 20 minutes, the whitening agent is removed and the process is repeated. Most whitening sessions involve a total of three applications of the whitener, and take about an hour to complete. How much whiter will my teeth be? In general, teeth are seven to ten shades lighter after a Zoom! tooth whitening treatment. If the stains on your teeth are particularly stubborn, you might need to use a take-home whitening treatment, or return for additional whitening sessions. Can the Zoom! tooth whitening system treat intrinsic staining? The Zoom! tooth whitening system is highly effective at treating extrinsic staining, or staining that occurs on the surface of your teeth. Intrinsic staining, staining that is part of the actual tooth material, does not respond as well to this type of tooth whitening. For intrinsic staining, consult with Dr. Marshall about additional types of treatment such as porcelain veneers.
