Cosmetic Dentistry Expertise
Porcelain veneers are an increasingly popular choice for a variety of cosmetic dentistry treatments. They are versatile, relatively easy to place on the teeth, and require only a few dental visits. Veneers provide a natural look, in just two visits over a few weeks time.
Main Line, Pennsylvania cosmetic dentist Dr. Lindsey Marshall uses Empress and Emax Veneers as her preferred option for porcelain veneers. Empress and Emax porcelain veneers are among the strongest, most natural-looking veneers available.
How Veneers Work
Porcelain veneers are very thin porcelain shells, usually no thicker than a fingernail, that are bonded to the surface of your teeth. Because they are so thin, only a thin layer of enamel must be removed from the tooth to make room for the veneers. The porcelain also provides a translucence similar to natural tooth enamel.
Porcelain veneer placement usually requires two trips to the dentist. The first is to prepare your teeth for the porcelain veneers and to make a mold from which your custom veneers can be prepared. Dr. Marshall places temporary veneers on your teeth while the permanent porcelain veneers are being constructed at a dental lab.
When the permanent veneers are completed, you will return to Dr. Marshall’s office to have them bonded to your teeth. The bonding agent secures the veneers to your teeth, ensuring longevity and a secure, permanent connection between the porcelain and the tooth surface.
Empress and Emax Veneers
Empress and Emax Veneers are a type of veneer made of pressed ceramic. This type of veneer works particularly well in cases where several veneers are put into place at once, such as all of the front teeth being treated at the same time.
Empress and Emax Veneers offer many advantages, including:
- More translucent than other veneers
- Stronger than other veneers and can be used to lengthen teeth
- Maintain a consistent color even in different light
