Gum disease is a serious oral health problem that requires intervention to save your teeth and jawbone.
This is not a part of a smile makeover and must be addressed before starting any cosmetic treatment. In order to be a candidate for a smile makeover, Dr. Marshall works closely with you to improve your oral health.
Please contact our Ardmore dentist for a consultation on your oral health and recommended next steps.
A smile makeover is cosmetic in its approach and improves the aesthetic appeal of your smile. While it may improve your smile’s form and function, it’s not meant to address serious underlying problems like gum disease or decay.
For example, if a tooth has a deep crack, a porcelain veneer won’t fix that. A deep crack must be treated to save the tooth, and a crown may be a better option than a thin porcelain veneer.
On the other hand, general dentistry is different from cosmetic dentistry involved in a smile makeover. While Dr. Marshall is an expert in both general and cosmetic dentistry, and there is some overlap in a smile makeover, general dentistry usually focuses on your overall oral health.
These include problems with deep decay and gum disease, which are not part of smile makeovers and must be fixed before moving on to a cosmetic procedure.
You’re in good hands with Lindsey Marshall DMD as we provide a full range of services with modern family dentistry, including general, cosmetic, and restorative care on the Philadelphia Main Line.
Smile makeover treatments have little to no risk. With almost any dental procedure, there is a slight chance of infection, but that’s very rare.
Our smile design dentist uses modern technology and techniques to help ensure your successful treatment. But again, remember that these are cosmetic in nature and not oral surgery, so they’re typically faster and easier to complete than you ever imagined.
In our opinion, the bigger risk may be deciding to stay with a smile you don’t feel comfortable with or don’t like. Please contact our Philadelphia Main Line cosmetic dentist and team to learn about your smile makeover options.
Using modern technology and techniques, our smile design dentist helps ensure you’re pain-free, comfortable, and relaxed during your smile makeover.
The term “smile makeover” sounds all-encompassing, so patients sometimes think these treatments are complex and painful. In reality, many of these cosmetic treatments, such as teeth whitening and dental bonding, are completely painless and don’t require anesthesia.
Gum contouring using a diode laser is another treatment that’s virtually painless, but this wasn’t always the case.
During the procedure, Dr. Marshall uses an innovative soft-tissue laser to remove excess gum tissue to make your teeth appear longer and more proportionate. The laser removes unwanted gum tissue and instantly seals the cut to prevent bleeding and discomfort.
Another type of smile makeover involving replacing amalgam fillings with composite resin uses local anesthesia. This helps ensure you’re pain-free during treatment, and any residual soreness the following day is easily manageable with over-the-counter pain medication.
In addition to advanced techniques and local anesthetics, Lindsey Marshall DMD offers sedation dentistry . This helps eliminate anxiety and fear to maximize your comfort. Typically, you’ll be given a sedative before your treatment, which also allows us to perform a series of treatments the same day.
Each smile is unique, which means each case is unique. Therefore, when Dr. Marshall plans your smile makeover, she doesn’t have a set “menu” of what you must have. Rather, we work together to achieve your goals.
During your consultation, we discuss your concerns, needs, and vision. Then, we work together to come up with the best smile makeover plan to help you look better and feel better.
For one patient, we may include teeth whitening. But for another who has stains in their dentin from tetracycline given as a child, teeth whitening won’t fix that, and we may recommend porcelain veneers.
We have many cosmetic and restorative services under one roof at our Ardmore, PA office. This means you have more options and access to the best dental care all in one spot. Enjoy fewer referrals and more expertise!
With most of these procedures, there isn’t any significant recovery time.
Dental implants and gum contouring are exceptions. Placing an implant requires some recovery time where your gums heal and you eat a soft diet. Gum contouring requires a short recovery, but no more than a day in most cases.
Otherwise, most procedures like porcelain veneers, dental crowns, or teeth whitening have no real recovery. Remember, smile makeovers are mostly cosmetic procedures rather than restorations.
Smile makeovers with Dr. Marshall can completely change the way you think about your smile.
Patients come to us from all around the Philadelphia Main Line for our smile makeovers because we have the ability to create dream smiles. The best part? We can usually do this in just a few office appointments.
None of these procedures require significant recovery. You may have some residual soreness after Dr. Marshall prepares a tooth for a crown, but it’s nothing dramatic.
For most smile makeovers, except the placement of a dental implant, you can go right back to your daily work and life routine. The best part? You can do so with something to smile about!
