How Does Zoom! Tooth Whitening Work?

If you’re thinking about teeth bleaching, you’ve likely heard of Philips Zoom! Zoom tooth whitening has gained a deserved reputation for being a fast, reliable solution for a brighter smile.
Patients who visit Dr. Marshall for in-office teeth whitening in the Philadelphia area often rave about the results they are able to get with Zoom! The entire treatment is quick, convenient, and comfortable, and takes only about an hour to complete.
During that hour, Dr. Marshall will perform the following steps:
- Light teeth cleaning
- Isolating and applying a protective gel to the gums and lips to minimize irritation of soft tissue
- Coating your teeth with the whitening gel
- Activating the whitening agent by shining a special lamp on your teeth
After 15 to 20 minutes, Dr. Marshall will remove the whitening gel and apply a new coat to your teeth. She will then repeat the process again for a third and final session.
Zoom! whitening gel contains hydrogen peroxide. When activated by the chairside light, the peroxide enters the enamel and begins breaking apart those pesky stains. A single appointment can get your teeth looking up to 10 shades lighter, and Dr. Marshall can provide you with a take-home kit to prolong your whitening results.
Though some whitening treatments can cause teeth to become sensitive, Zoom! is formulated to keep sensitivity to a minimum. Choosing in-office whitening will also give Dr. Marshall the ability to monitor treatment and adjust it if needed should you start to feel discomfort.
